§ 222-7. Appointments; terms of office; inspectors and employees; removal.

  • A. 
    Appointment of Fire Official. The Bureau of Fire Safety shall be under the direct supervision of the Fire Marshal who shall be appointed by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Bellmawr, upon the recommendation of the Mayor.
    B. 
    The Fire Marshal shall serve for a term of one year, and fire inspectors and the Fire Prevention Specialist shall serve for a term of one year.
    C. 
    Inspectors and other employees. Such inspectors and other employees as may be necessary in the local enforcement agency shall be appointed by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Bellmawr, upon recommendation of the Mayor.
    D. 
    Minimum requirements; qualifications of Fire Marshal and Fire Inspectors. The Fire Marshal shall be certified by the Department of Community Affairs as Fire Official and licensed as a fire protection inspector. Fire inspectors shall by certified by the Department of Community Affairs as fire inspector. All shall be certified Firefighter 1 from the Department of Community Affairs.
    E. 
    Removal from office. Inspectors and other employees of the enforcing agency shall be subject to removal by the Mayor and Council for inefficiency or misconduct. Each employee so removed shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard by the accepting authority or a designated hearing officer.
